Diagnosis Simon Ryder

The Diagnosis beacons are 1 of 2 major artworks yet to be fabricated and installed when funding is in place. Designed by lead artist Simon Ryder, the beacons will mark main entrance points, and help visitors find their way around the hospital site. Standing 18 metres high, the beacons will pulse with differently coloured bands of neon which respond to and reflect changing weather data.

“They are designed to reach into the sky, sensing the world around, taking the pulse of Gloucestershire. The up-to-the-minute measurements they display; air temperature, pressure, humidity and air flow, present the basis for diagnosis – a metaphor for the process of diagnosis used within the hospital.”
