Diagnosis Simon Ryder

The Diagnosis beacons were never commissioned. Designed by lead artist Simon Ryder, it was planned that the beacons would mark main entrance points, and help visitors find their way around the hospital site.

“They are designed to reach into the sky, sensing the world around, taking the pulse of Gloucestershire. The up-to-the-minute measurements they display; air temperature, pressure, humidity and air flow, present the basis for diagnosis – a metaphor for the process of diagnosis used within the hospital.”
