GRASP RESIDENCY Jamie Gutch
In early planning meetings with Ophthalmology staff it was suggested that the department should be linked with The Milestone School, Gloucester’s award winning community special school. “Optometrists suggested that a large number of Milestone’s children attend eye clinics at Gloucestershire Royal, and that it might be good to involve them in creating something very appropriate in a waiting area used by a lot of people with visual impairment” explains project co-ordinator Jo Plimmer.
Mobile artist Jamie Gutch has been working with children and staff across Year 2 groups (80 children in all) to explore the idea of balance and selection of materials, and generate design ideas for a series of mobiles in the new Ophthalmology department.
