Outpatients light sculpture Jason Bruges
“Starting with my idea to bring the outside into the hospital through the courtyard space, the initial sketches included mirrors and a camera obscura. This developed into a courtyard chandelier of light which will respond directly to the skyscape above Gloucester. This transformation came about through consultation within the hospital which showed that, although bringing in light and views was well received, a low resolution, high contrast version of this approach would work better. Particularly as many visitors in that area are partially sighted, or attending the adjacent Ophthalmology Department. Out of this came the idea of a more abstract interpretation of the sky.”
Jason’s courtyard chandelier is yet to be fabricated and installed.
