Smashing memories

BOTTLES: have you got some old glass wine or water bottles stashed away somewhere: perhaps from a wedding, celebration, party or just piled ready to take for recycling, and wondered what to do with them? I have been commissioned to design the pathways leading to the new Childrens’ Centre, and would like to use your old bottles. The glass will be crushed, placed into moulds and fired in kilns to make recycled glass inserts. The bottles provided will be labelled through the collection, production and installation process, so that you can identify which glass insert your bottle was made into. If you can help then simply write your name on a piece of paper, roll it up and put it inside your bottle and bring them along to Gloucestershire Royal hospital on the Collection Day (see below).

COMPACT DISKS: also have you got any unwanted CDs. Along the route to the new Childrens’ Centre there will be a set of solar markers (similar to bollards) that are made from 3,500 discarded CDs. If you have any unwanted CDs, and it doesn't matter if they have writing or print on them, please bring them along to Gloucestershire Royal hospital on Collection Day (see below).

COLLECTION: you can drop off your bottles or CDs in the collectin bin situated in the main entrance to the hospital on Friday 7th November between 11am and 4pm. The bottles need to be washed, and at least the size of a standard wine bottle (75cl), made of glass, and not be brown or brown/green, and if you really want to help then de-labelling the bottles beforehand would be fantastic. The CDs can be dropped off just as they are, without cases or slip covers.

Many thanks

David Watson
