Residencies
Elixir
To complement the commissioned 'landmark' and welcoming works which will significantly enhance the status and public perception of the new build and the environment of the Children's Centre, we propose 'Elixir', a programme of artists' residencies due to take place in 2004 that will continue to build on the interest and hope generated by the opening of the new hospital.
Elixir will consist of up to 10 artists each spending a residency period of several months in one of up to 10 different hospital departments, working with the staff and patients developing their own insights to produce permanent artworks to be sited within those departments, as well as temporary works for the Exhibition Sites mentioned above.
GRASP Schools' Residency Programme
A focal wall will be identified in six children's waiting areas to display large artworks created in collaboration with local schools. The commissions will be produced through a schools artist-in-residence programme. As well as creating interest and distraction in the waiting areas, the aim is to link the hospital to the local community and to involve local children in shaping the hospital environment.
Children's Residencies
An ongoing children's arts programme will be launched in the Children's Centre once it is up and running. Managed by Arts in Trust, the hospital's arts programme, this will bring live music and entertainment, creative play and artists-in-residence into the children's areas.
