Simon Ryder
"For a number of years now I have focussed on making work for specific places, both as an individual artist and with artNucleus, an artist group that I co-founded five years ago. During that time artNucleus has tackled various locations including a stately home, a livestock market (just after foot and mouth), and two cathedrals, one in England one in Germany. More recently I have turned my attention to one specific area, Gloucestershire, in the belief that a deeper knowledge of one locality would enhance my site-specific practice. Here, I have organised and produced work for Gloucester Cathedral, the Mariner's dockside church, the city's Cattle Market (now demolished), outdoor projections for the city centre, as well as working on farms throughout the county."
Simon Ryder worked as lead artist on this project for the Gloucestershire Royal. He also produced plans for the Light Beacons commission, intended to highlight the four main entrances to the hospital. This was never commissioned.
