What is Arts in Trust?

“Variety of form and brilliancy of colour in the objects presented to patients are actual means of recovery.” Florence Nightingale, 1888

Arts in Trust is the arts programme for Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust. We believe the arts can play a powerful role in the healing process by supporting the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of patients. As can be seen from Florence Nightingale’s observation this is not new, but the impact of the arts on creating stimulating and invigorating environments for patients, staff and visitors is increasingly recognised today by the NHS, the government and the wider public.

Arts in Trust uses the arts to enhance the healthcare environment and promote relaxation and enjoyment for the benefit of patients, visitors and staff across the Trust’s main sites. These include Cheltenham General, Gloucestershire Royal and Delancey Hospitals.

Arts in Trust was responsible for the delivery of the Leading the Way art commissions.

Arts in Trust are funded by Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust. Funding for individual projects is solicited from charitable and other external sources.
