Audiology and the Ear, Nose and Throat Departments

Annabelle Craven Jones and Littledean Primary School

The necessity of targeting literacy and communication development often means we don’t have the time or resources to do this kind of project. Simply having an artist and nurse in school is beneficial, as the children hear how different people communicate, and the use of different language specific to different areas of work.”

Linda Hay Littledean Primary School Head

Though situated in a beautiful rural location, Littledean is working hard to address local deprivation problems including slow literacy and communication skills development, which sometimes takes precedence over ‘creative’ projects in school.

Annabelle based her residency around phonic learning, and resources already used in the classroom, and the link with the Audiology and ENT Departments allowed children to learn about listening and sound in a very different way.

Final artworks installed in the corridors of the Audiology and Ear, Nose and Throat Departments are composed of phonic clusters using fonts and letters selected by the Littledean children.
