Dermatology Department
Clare Hudman and Linden Primary School
“There are lots of things which affect what is appropriate to put in a department like ours. Hot colours are out for starters. If your skin is irritated, uncomfortable and painful you want cool soothing colours around you.”
Maggie Gardiner
Senior Dermatology Nurse
Linden Primary School is close to the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, and has staff and pupil connections to the Dermatology department. In early project meetings staff stressed the importance of colour in calming waiting patients, both children and adults, which led to the appointment of stained glass artist Clare Hudman (link to artist page).
Clare’s residency included poetry and performance as well as visual art working, and raised awareness around a range of physical and psychological issues around skin conditions: skin protection and preventative care, impact of stress, appearance and self-esteem.
