First GRASP residency begins (15/2/04)
Mobile artist Jamie Gutch will be in residence from February at The Milestone School, Gloucester’s award-winning community special school. “Optometrists in Ophthalmology suggested that a large number of Milestones’ children attend eye clinics at the Gloucestershire Royal, and that it might be good to involve them in creating something very appropriate in a waiting area used by a lot of people with visual impairment,” explains project co-ordinator Jo Plimmer. “It will also go on to be something which they can experience directly if they attend clinics in the new building when it opens.”
Jamie has already spent a day visiting the new building, the existing Ophthalmology Department and The Milestone School. “Both school and hospital staff have already put forward ideas about materials and movement appropriate to children with eye problems, and this is quite inspiring information for an artist to work with, and especially for mobiles. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the children will contribute as well.”
