Lead Artist
Willis Newson is working with the artist Simon Ryder as Lead Artist on the Leading the Way programme. Simon is a sculptor, digital and site-specific artist, and a founding member of the artists group artNucleus, who over the past five years have specialised in commissioning groups of artists to engage with complex locations. artNucleus artists have worked at the National Trust's stately home Osterley Park House, Sofiero castle in southern Sweden, Gloucester livestock market (just after foot and mouth), Brandenburg cathedral in Germany, and Scolton Park Manor in Pembroke. Wales.
Over the past few years he has turned his attention to one specific area, Gloucestershire, in the belief that a deeper knowledge of one place would enhance his site-specific practice. He has organised and produced work for Gloucester Cathedral, the Mariner's dockside church, the city's Cattle Market (now demolished), outdoor projections for the city-centre, as well as working on farms throughout the county.
