Children's welcome wall Marion Brandis

"The wall is clearly visible when approaching the entrance, and a sign would be necessary in this location anyway. Therefore, I would like to make the sign the artwork, and work with lettering, using the name of the Children's Centre itself as a starting point. The letter forms will then be developed with the children of the hospital school and on the ward, and with the staff, parents and siblings. I am hoping that people will use their imaginations to embellish the letters, personalise them, employ figurative characteristics and humour for each letter. These letters would then be scaled up and executed in tiles and mosaic. Some of the mosaic material will be made by the children and staff of the hospital school, and possibly other local schools in the area."

Following some very successful school workshops, the wall has now been designed and installed (see images below). This is the first Leading the Way commission to be completed.
