Wall work to theatres Louise Gardiner

The illustrator and textile artist Louise Gardiner has been commissioned to create to an extended wall work to run along the route from the new Children’s Centre to Theatres. Designed to form an integral part of this route, the wall-based work will aid wayfinding, make the space child-friendly, and include elements from which to tell a story, so that play specialists and family members accompanying a child to theatre can actively use the artwork to distract and calm children en route.

Once they have arrived at theatres, artworks in the waiting and recovery areas, linked thematically and stylistically to the extended wall work along the route, will distract and entertain children and families.

Designs

The theme of the artwork will be “Wacky Races”. Nurses in motorised bathtubs, dogs on scooters, pigs on roller-skates, and other fun and fantastic characters will run along the route from the new Children's Centre to Theatres.

The race characters will be created printed onto 1 meter square panels which will be hung along the length of the route to Theatres.
