Bubble tower/lift Andy Hazell
Arriving at the entrance to the Children's Centre, patients will be greeted by this intriguing, interactive and eye-catching artwork that spans both the ground and first floors.
The bubble tower will rise from the ground and appear to disappear through the ceiling.
Proximity sensors will make it appear as if lights in the tower shoot up through the ceiling as children approach the artwork.
Children will be encouraged to go up in the lift to see where it comes out on the first floor, where sensors will again trigger the lights to rise and collect in the funnel at the top.
The bubble tower will therefore ease the route upstairs, making it fun and memorable for children.
“The Bubble Tower is a challenging commission, both technically and
aesthetically, with a horrifyingly long list of constraints. It is also a
rare opportunity to make a large-scale dynamic piece using new technologies.
It should prove to be an alluring draw to distract the young patients.
